Will Smith, Sterling K. Brown, Ciara and more dance to Drake in viral dance challenge the Shiggy
From the Harlem Shake to the Mannequin Challenge, the internet loves a good dance craze. This summer, it’s time to embrace the Shiggy.
Will Smith became the latest celebrity to give the Shiggy a go Thursday, showing off his best moves atop a Budapest bridge to the tune of Drake’s “In My Feelings.”
The challenge kicked off June 30, when New York-based Instagram comedian The Shiggy Show shared a video of himself dancing along to “In My Feelings,” and acting out the song’s lyrics with a sort of dance charades.
The groove slowly picked up steam, and by July 4, a video of Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. doing the Shiggy had racked up 7 million views.
The dance, also called the #InMyFeelingsChallenge, has since taken off, with celebrities like Ciara and husband Russell Wilson, La La Anthony, Kevin Hart, James Harden, Diplo, Lil Jon, Shay Mitchell and “This is Us” stars Sterling K. Brown and Susan Kelechi Watson all taking part with their own interpretations.
Even Drake himself has caught the Shiggy bug, as evidenced by a video shared to The Shiggy Show’s Instagram account Tuesday.
As the dance went viral, Shiggy shared a YouTube video breaking down exactly how to do the dance, and outlined steps including the jerk, the heart and “we driving.”
The challenge has also helped to push the track up the charts, with “In My Feelings” taking the title of top song globally off of Drake’s latest album “Scorpion,” according to Apple Music, despite it being just a B-side and not a single.
The fad comes after similar dance challenge in years’ past, including the Mannequin Challenge, which accompanied Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” in November 2016, and the So Gone Challenge to Monica’s “So Gone.”
